A Conversation With Rad Jesus
Dan:
Who are you?
Rad Jesus:
Rad Jesus, brah.
Dan:
Right, but who ARE you?
Rad Jesus:
Dude, I’m the son of God. Actually, the other son of God.
Dan:
So, you’re Jesus???
Rad Jesus:
Kind of. You’re thinking of Jesus of Nazareth. He’s my twin brother and also my best bud. We’re identical, but he’s like 3 minutes older.
Dan:
No one ever told me that Jesus has an identical twin. Why have we heard so much about him and absolutely nothing about you?
Rad Jesus:
It’s kind of a long story.
Dan:
We’ve got time.
Rad Jesus:
Well, let’s just say that if he’s the Holy Spirit, I’m the Free Spirit. While he was walking on water, I was catching waves in his wake. Big bro was the teacher's pet, and I was the class clown. Mom and Dad thought it was best I just lay low. So I did. I lived off the land for a couple of millennia. Nowadays, I surf, skate, hang glide. That kind of stuff.
Dan:
Are you religious?
Rad Jesus:
Well, yeah. Do you believe in your dad? What kind of question is that?
Dan:
Ok, dumb question. But how do you practice your religion?
Rad Jesus:
I’m more of a “seize the moment” type of dude than my bro.
Dan:
How so?
Rad Jesus:
Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally stoked that people spend so much time thinking about sin and salvation, but we need to get radical with our lives here on Earth.
Dan:
Can you explain that more?
Rad Jesus:
You’ve probably noticed that humans have let things get pretty sketch down here. Everybody’s so angry. Territorial. Maybe, if people listened a bit more to my brother, things wouldn’t be so aggro.
Dan:
Well, if the goal is to listen to your brother, why do we need you?
Rad Jesus:
Like me, most humans get distracted pretty easily. It’s hard to follow the conversation when you’re always thinking about the next wave. My bro had great things to say about how we should live, but his message was spread out over thousands of pages. I’m just simplifying things.
Dan:
How’s your message different?
Rad Jesus:
Not different. Simpler. Laid back.
Dan:
So, what is this simple message that can change the world?
Rad Jesus:
Just live your life with Boldness and Kindness.
Dan:
That’s it?
Rad Jesus:
Sort of. You definitely won’t tweak your back or pull a hammy lifting the stone tablets of my commandments, but there’s a lot to unpack. Boldness is about more than just dropping in on some bombs at Pipe. Boldness means living with action and expressing the courage and conviction to do what’s right, no matter what others may think.
Dan:
But what is “Right?”
Rad Jesus:
Basically, just don’t be a dick. And, if you’re still not sure, just think WWRD: What Would Rad Do?
Dan:
Makes sense. And Kindness?
Rad Jesus:
Kindness might be even more important, and I’m not just talking about playing nice with the Barneys, Bennies, and kooks. You have to be as kind, compassionate, and caring as you can be—to yourself, to other people, and to all of my dad’s creations.
Dan:
Sounds simple enough.
Rad Jesus:
Dude, it is. That’s the magic! Listen, life can be gnarly and everybody gets ragdolled at times. However, if people just keep charging—but with waaaay more kindness—they can all live the stoke.
Dan:
Live the Stoke? That’s got a nice ring to it. Anything else to add before we say goodbye?
Rad Jesus:
It’s a bit off-topic, but one thing I’ve noticed since my return: people today definitely enjoy getting stoned more than they did back in my day.
Dan:
Huh?
Rad Jesus:
Never mind—just a little Bible humor. Later sk8ter. Rad Jesus out.
